Are you a fan of long-distance travel? And are you someone who likes to get to know the country and its people over a longer period of time? Someone who doesn't let themselves be forced into fixed travel plans by tour operators? Then we have something wonderful for you. A journey along the east coast of Australia. From Cairns to Sydney.
Key geographic data
Because most of us haven't visited the continent / island state of Australia until now with a finger on the globe, not knowing much more, except that there are kangaroos and the famous red rock, Uluru, as it is called. No wonder. Australia is basically on the other side of the world. Nobody flies there “on the fly”. One day travel time is to be planned.
Australia is one of the largest countries in the world (the sixth largest) and is divided into 6 states. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia, the three territories Australian Capital Territory, Jervis Bay Territory and the Northern Territory as well as seven outskirts. English is spoken. The currency is the Australian dollar, which is worth about the same as 0.60 euros or 0.60 francs. Despite its size, Australia doesn't have as many inhabitants as you might think. It's almost 26 million. For comparison: Switzerland has almost 9 million.
The climate encompasses everything. There are temperate zones, tropics and subtropics. On the east coast it is warm all year round. Beware - there can be strong trade winds and heavy rainfall if the weather conditions are right.
The route
Everyone knows the destination Sydney. Cairns, on the other hand, only a few. It is far north, in the state of Queensland. The start is so high in the north that you have the best beaches and coasts on the route. Mission Beach, Turtle Bay, Yingalinda Beach and whatever they are called. If you are looking for paradise in the form of endless sandy beaches interspersed with palm trees, you have come to the right place. With the Hinchinbrook Island National Park you also have a fixed point that you should definitely plan with.
The route also takes you via Brisbane, where you should give yourself a little time to get to know the vibrant city, including culture and nightlife. North and south of Brisbane, the sunbathing continues straight away. We only say: Sunshine Bay and Gold Coast. In this case, the best way to travel is with a mobile home. Simply rent for the planned time and don't have to worry about hotels, motels and the like. There are many excellent campsites on the route. If you have 5-6 weeks time, you will experience an unforgettable holiday here.
