The Garden Route in South Africa

If you are in the mood for something new, longing to finally travel far away again, to get to know foreign cultures, countries and people, you should think about South Africa. South Africa is different - in every respect. It starts with the fact that South Africa has 3 capitals. The government is in Pretoria, Parliament in Cape Town and the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein. On top of that. The country also has more recognized official languages than most other countries in the world. These are: Afrikaans, English, South Ndebele, isiXhosa, isiZulu, North Sotho, Sesotho, Setswana, Siswati, Tshivenda and Xitsonga. Do you know a country with more official languages? Just. That reflects what the country is like. Versatile, multicultural. Here indigenous peoples mix with modern metropolises. Poor meets rich, black on white. There are incredible safari parks, mountains, coasts that are both gentle and wild, and of course, vibrant metropolises where nightlife is a top priority. To experience and savor everything at once during just one holiday is almost impossible. We are therefore concentrating on a small part of the whole - the part that is commonly known as the Garden Route.

The Garden Route

This is not only a district whose name is based on the Garden of Eden, but also a nearly 370 km long panoramic road within the South African National Route between Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay. It is one of THE highlights of a holiday in South Africa. That's why we're only going to focus on this route here.

If you want to enjoy a stress-free holiday on the Garden Route, you should be traveling with a camper. The reasons for this are simply summarized. Since it is a tourist magnet, the accommodation establishments in the area are usually fully booked and also not very cheap. Getting an affordable room in the short term is a stroke of luck. But who wants to play Russian roulette every day when it comes to the next place to stay for a night or two at most? Probably nobody. So take your place to sleep with you. Rent a mobile home in such a way that you can pick it up upon arrival at the airport and start using it immediately. And then return it to the airport. That makes the logistics very easy. And then start the journey. What will be your favorite destinations? The imposing Bloukrans Bridge, from which daredevil bungee jumpers throw themselves down? The paradisiacal beach of Plettenberg Bay? An ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn? Wildlife at Knysna Elephant Park? Or the bustling coastal city of Port Elizabeth? Take your time and enjoy the Garden Route. If there is still time after that, it is also worth staying in Cape Town before returning home.
