Tierra del Fuego - Adventure travel in southern South America

There are holiday destinations that are out of the ordinary. And this destination is certainly one of them. If you think you've seen and experienced everything, if you don't really know where to spend your next vacation, you should consider Tierra del Fuego if you have a long-distance trip in mind and can afford a longer time window. But how could such a journey through Tierra del Fuego look like?

About Tierra del Fuego

Not everyone knows Tierra del Fuego. Therefore, a few facts worth knowing in advance. Tierra del Fuego was formerly known by the name Magellanica or by the Spanish term Tierra del Fuego (literally meaning "land of fire"). This is an archipelago at the southern tip of South America. This is around 74,000 square kilometers in size, split off from the mainland by the Strait of Magellan and divided into a Chilean and an Argentine part. The area has only around 135,000 inhabitants. But Tierra del Fuego is quite mountainous. The highest mountains reach up to 2,500 meters and form the end of the Andes. One can imagine that this is the basis for wildly romantic impressions. Wild, untouched pure nature. Anyone expecting it to be particularly warm in Tierra del Fuego at this point, be it because of the name or because of the southern location, will be disappointed. The average temperatures correspond to those in Moscow. And that's part of the appeal for those looking for the ultimate kick.

Destinations for the camper tour through Tierra del Fuego

Tierra del Fuego has a lot to offer. We don't just mean the wild nature, the fact that steep, snow-covered mountains merge seamlessly into the sea, but also the following: One should take the time to let the old harbors sink in. There is a lot of action here. Oil refineries, fish markets and various crafts alternate. A symbol of the fact that time has stood still here for a long time. Or how about the end of the world - El Fin del Mundo? Then you have to go to Ushuaia. This is the southernmost city in the world. It is picturesque and colourful, offers many museums, one of which is even in a former prison. Interesting experience, really. A short cruise on the Beagle Channel offers some variety. You can collect many animal impressions and marvel at what is perhaps the southernmost lighthouse. Adjacent to the north of the canal is the absolute highlight to marvel at: the Tierra del Fuego National Park. Beautiful hiking trails lead along the bays or through primeval forests. This is what the untouched earth must have looked like - a true paradise.

You will have to plan a little time for a trip through Tierra del Fuego. A camper is highly recommended for this. This makes you flexible. And you travel at manageable costs. Bet that not many of your friends can tell you that they have been to Tierra del Fuego?
