Bulgaria - between tradition and modernity

Bulgaria is a fascinating, rapidly changing country in Eastern Europe. Here, shiny BMWs share the road with horse-drawn carriages. The country has its roots in a mix of Ottoman, Orthodox and Soviet-controlled past. The capital of Bulgaria is Sofia, a modern city that was founded by the Thracians as early as 500 BC. Sofia is the ideal starting point for a tour of Bulgaria.

With a well-developed road network, Bulgaria is an interesting travel destination that can easily be explored with a mobile home. Since there are still many areas in Bulgaria that tourism has not yet found, a mobile home is ideal, because there are only a very limited number of hotel beds in the remote mountain villages in the Balkan Mountains in the north and the Rhodope Mountains in the south.

The highest peak in Bulgaria and the whole Balkans is located in the Rila Mountains in the southwest. There is the Rila Monastery, which was founded in the 10th century. But this is only a cultural bonus, because this area is ideal for hiking through quaint mountain villages and untouched nature that you can hardly find in Europe.

The local cuisine, an unusual mixture of Slavic and Mediterranean cuisine, will pleasantly surprise you, and you shouldn't forget to try the original Bulgarian yogurt, because this is where yogurt comes from. The robust Bulgarian wine of the valleys goes perfectly with this cuisine.

Bulgaria has been the largest rose oil producer in the world for centuries and the cultivation of lavender is now widespread. From the end of May to the end of June it is harvest time in the Valley of the Roses and on weekends there are rose festivals all over the area. So we warmly recommend this time to visit if you are interested in roses and rose oil.

It is not far from the Valley of the Roses to Nessebar. This is a small town that is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Black Sea". Nessebar has a rich history dating back to the early 5th century BC. Begins. The whole city has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Located on the Black Sea, it is also an attractive seaside resort.
