A camper trip through Argentina - discover South America!

With an area of approximately 2,780,400 km², Argentina is the second largest country in South America after Brazil and the eighth largest country in the world. With a population of 48 million people, Argentina is the second largest Spanish-speaking country in South America after Colombia. Argentina borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Uruguay and Brazil to the northeast, Paraguay and Bolivia to the north and Chile to the west. Due to its large north-south extension of approximately 3,600 km, the country has a large variety of vegetation and weather zones, from tropical to subtropical in the north to cold zones in the south and in the Andes.

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina. With only 202 km² and around 14 million inhabitants, it is one of the largest metropolitan regions in South America. The city was founded in 1536 by a Spanish sailor and named after the holy Mary of the good air: "Santa María del buen ayre". The city of tango is a perfect starting point for a camping tour through Argentina. Cross the different climate zones at your own pace and follow the famous Ruta Nacional 40, at 5,300 km the longest national road in Argentina and one of the most famous highways on the South American continent, alongside the Pan-American Highway.

Iguazú Falls

The falls are accessible from both Argentina and Brazil and are surrounded by a dense rainforest. They are higher than Niagara Falls in North America and wider than Victoria Falls in Africa. With a width of 2.7 kilometers and a height of up to 82 meters, they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main waterfall, Garganta del Diablo (in English "Devil's Throat"), is a U-shaped gorge 700 meters long and 150 meters wide consisting of 14 waterfalls. From Buenos Aires, the Iguazú Falls can be reached in 1,300 to 1,600 kilometers, depending on the route.

Quebrada de Humahuaca and Salinas Grandes

In the province of Jujuy, about 1,500 kilometers from Buenos Aires, in northwestern Argentina, is the Quebrada de Humahuaca. An Andean valley with a length of 155 km at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters, flanked by high mountain ranges. An unforgettable sight with grazing guanacos and striped mountains, the color of which ranges from almost white to deep purple. The Salinas Grandes del Noroeste is one of Argentina's most famous salt lakes. Tectonic changes in the Andes created a lake of over 212 km² at an altitude of 3,450 meters above sea level between 5 and 10 million years ago.

Bariloche

The city of Bariloche - also known as Argentine Switzerland - is located in an Andean valley on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi. An unforgettable mountain and lake panorama with sharp glaciers in the background, clear mountain lakes, cypress and myrtle forests and green meadows. Bariloche is located next to Cerro Catedral, the largest winter sports resort in South America. Camping in the Siete Lagos (Seven Lakes) district, which leads around the Ruta de los Siete Lagos, a 110-kilometer-long road past seven mountain lakes, is part of a ritual for Argentinians. Bariloche, the chocolate city of Argentina: this is where you can find the best chocolate in Argentina.
