Macedonia - unknown beauty

Macedonia is one of those states that emerged from the breakup of Yugoslavia. It is framed by the states of Kosovo or Serbia (in the north), Albania (in the west), Greece (in the south) and Bulgaria (in the east). Its size is comparable to that of the German federal state of Hesse, with only around a third of the population of Hesse living in Macedonia - namely a good two million. The capital and largest city of the country is Skopje. The languages spoken here are Macedonian, partly Albanian, Turkish, Romani and Serbian.

As you can see, Macedonia is a colorful country when it comes to the mixture of languages and culture.

As a holiday destination, Macedonia is extremely cheap compared to other European countries. Because the country is only relatively flat in a geographical sense along the rivers, it is particularly suitable for those globetrotters who like to climb mountains and enjoy the wild nature. The highest peak in the country is the Golem Korab with a height of almost 2,800 meters. As a contrast, we could recommend the lakes in the southwest on the border with Albania. The Ohrid and Prespa lakes are around 400 square kilometers and a certain substitute for the missing sea. The highest waterfall in southern Europe is particularly recommended for romantics - the Korab waterfall at 139 meters.

So that you can easily reach all of these small destinations, we recommend a means of transport that is both accommodation and means of transportation. It is not worth traveling by private car and planning a city break. The cities are too small. Provide flexibility and don't be dependent on the accommodations offered locally. A motorhome is surely the best way to travel Macedonia. Here you have everything you need with you. And you are flexible and independent of accommodation.

For example, a tour of the country could look like this:

Start in Skopje, in the north of Macedonia. Spend three days here and let the flair of the capital sink in while you explore the city with a long history. After that, you will travel to the southeast, to Stip, then to Kavadarci and Bitola in the south. From here the part begins with bathing in the lakes, nature-loving hikes through the national parks and letting go of your soul. One tip at the end: Macedonia is not exactly known for its wealth. Do not show off expensive belongings, then you can look forward to a varied vacation in diverse surroundings!
