In the footsteps of the midnight sun
Sun, beach and sea? That was yesterday. At least for all those who are looking for something special and who have already visited and traveled almost everywhere. Are you a globetrotter and do these words appeal to you? Then we have a tip for you. Travel to a place where the sun never sets. At least not in summer. Where is that? North of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. You guessed it - it will be a long journey.
The midnight sun
Anyone who paid attention to geography in school knows about the peculiarities that exist around individual degrees of longitude and latitude. The equator divides the earth almost exactly down the middle into southern and northern halves. This is where the tropical climate zone is located. Here the days are about the same length as the nights. The stark counterpart are the Arctic Circles. They are located at about 66.6 degrees north and south latitude. This is the exact distance from the equator at which the sun no longer sets in summer and no longer rises in winter at the solstice. A day of sunshine? Is possible if the weather permits. And that's where you can travel if you want to experience it.
Norway
A classic holiday destination where you can travel after the midnight sun is Norway. Norway stretches far north. The region around Bodø comes closest to the Arctic Circle. Here you can experience the never setting sun from around June 4th to July 8th, but interestingly there is no polar night to watch yet (that would be the perpetual darkness). A little better known is the city of Tromsø, where the midnight sun can be seen from May 20th to July 22nd. The polar night conquers the sky from November 27th to January 15th. At the North Cape, both take even longer. On the paradisiacal and well-known fjord with the evocative name Magdalenefjord, the sun shines from April 16th to August 26th and darkness reigns from October 22nd to February 19th. The question is, which of the destinations do you want to travel to? And what is the best way to travel?
Rent a camper for long distances!
Since the distances in Norway are sometimes great, it is worth renting a camper. Think in advance what your goals should be. Then count the time involved and rent a camper, which you can pick up at the airport if you do it cleverly. The costs are fair. You only pay for the duration that you rent a mobile home. Insurance, etc. - all inclusive. It's worth getting an offer. And then you can be there next summer when the sun never sets.
