Finland - pure nature
The northern European country in Scandinavia borders Norway, Sweden, Russia and the Baltic Sea. With around 5.5 million inhabitants and an area of almost 340,000 km², Finland is one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. The climate is rather cool all year round, especially in the north it is cold with high precipitation values in the winter months.
Finland's varied flora and fauna as well as the diverse nature with countless lakes and forests invite you to take a trip to the Scandinavian country. A classic hotel holiday with a longer stay at a destination is only an option for very few travelers in Finland.
A lot of travel enthusiasts are drawn to the land of lakes and forests every year by motorhome or a converted camper van. A trip to Finland can last a weekend, a week or even several months depending on the time and budget of the travelers. Two weeks in which you can circumnavigate Finland and explore it are mediocre.
Route history for 14 days
A popular starting point for a road trip through Finland is the capital Helsinki in the south of the country. Helsinki convinces with culture, people and the sea. From there the journey to the north starts. The first destination is the city of Vaasa, about 400 km away. A stopover in Turku, in the middle of forests and fields by the sea, is a good idea on the long drive. From Vaasa on the west coast there is another longer drive of a good 500 km to the north of the country, to Rovaniemi. The city near the Swedish border is the capital of Finnish Lapland and should not be missed on any tour of Finland. From Rovaniemi it is another 350 km to the far north of Finland. To get back to the starting point of the trip, you can either return to the original route or choose another route through eastern Finland, along the Russian border.
