Botswana - experience the wilderness with the 4x4 off-road camper
Botswana has an area of almost 582,000 km² and is a landlocked country in the southwestern part of Africa. The total population is estimated at around 2.6 million inhabitants, bordered by Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The landscape of Botswana is characterized by the huge Kalahari Desert, which covers around 80% of the country, and the Okavango Delta, an inland river delta in the north of Botswana. The climate is subtropical and the official language is English.
Gaborone
Gaborone is the capital of Botswana and is located in the southeast on the Notwane River. With around 250,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in Botswana, characterized by vast steppe land and the occasional soaring skyscraper. From here, the wilderness and silence of Botswana can be explored in just a few minutes with an off-road camper. How about starting with the Gaborone Game Reserve? It is home to a variety of native animal species and the area includes alluvial forests, swamps and tree savannahs. In most game reserves and national parks, the campsites are usually not fenced in: Fancy a pure safari?
Chobe National Park
The Chobe National Park is an untouched safari playground for all ages and with an area of around 12,000 km², it is the largest and first national park in Botswana, founded in 1967. In southern Africa, the Chobe National Park has the highest wildlife population with an elephant population of up to 70,000 specimens, large herds of zebras and wildebeest, antelopes and many big cats. The reserve is home to over 400 different species of birds and you can marvel at crocodiles, hippos and the like on the rivers. Since most of the roads in the national parks consist of "deep sand tracks", it is only possible to drive through the Chobe National Park all year round with a 4x4 off-roader.
Kalahari Desert
The dominant ecosystem in Botswana is the Kalahari, a thorn bush savannah with an area of around 930,000 km² spread over the countries of Botswana and Namibia. A sea of dune waves with red sand and blue skies with golden dune grasses, thorn bushes and tall acacias characterize the appearance here. A Botswana safari in the Kalahari offers a variety of animal species in a harsh environment that cannot be seen anywhere else in Botswana. Predators such as lions, jackals, leopards and cheetahs as well as giraffes, springboks, oryx, not to mention the unique brown hyena. An off-roader camping safari is one of the best ways to experience the African bush.
Okavango Delta
The jewel of the Kalahari Desert is the Okavango Delta, an inland river delta in the north of Botswana. With over 20,000 km², it is one of the largest and most animal-rich wetlands in Africa. Endangered species such as white and black rhinos, cheetahs, wild dogs and lions live here. Discover the sounds of the wilderness in a unique ecosystem and get closer to the spectacular wildlife in your own way. Camping in the Okavango Delta: A trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site!
